The Telegraph Schools Chess Championship Calcutta

The Championship is organised by

ALEKHINE CHESS CLUB

and has been sponsored for the past 15 years by the esteemed news daily

The Telegraph

at

GORKY SADAN, CALCUTTA

It is open to the school children upto the age of 16 years or those who are studying class X whichever is less. The championship is very popular amongst the school children and the organisers find it a very difficult task to restrict entries to 220.
This is the only school level event in India that has been recognised by

ALL INDIA CHESS FEDERATION
as the FIDE rated chess tournament.

To cover the eastern India, preliminary rounds were conducted by the Alekhine Chess Club at Bhubaneswar (for Orissa State players), Jamshedpur (for Jharkhand and Bihar State players) and Guwahati (For the players from Assam State and other north eastern states) and the first five from each of these places will also take part in this final round along with some promising young players from Bangladesh.
